The Sailor’s Tale: Chapter Four — Lost in the Fog

It’s not been long that he has walked,
but he’s already lost in mist
that creeps around him whispering
a long and gruesome list.

Of sins and souls and deeds and death,
they pour into his ear.
Of greed and lust and pride and vain,
they pour into his ear.

He screams with guilt and cries denial.
He shrieks with anger, hate and bile.
The whispers give him one more chance.

He replies with silence.

So the mists drift apart
and he passes through free.

But their tendrils have reached
through his skin and his bones
and they know what is inside his heart.
